Plant Profile

Hosta 'Hands Up'

Hosta 'Hands Up' is a new addition to a famous plant. It has been on release from a number of nurseries since 2011 and is definitely a must have plant. My plant came from America where it commanded a very high price. However, it is available nearer home, and should be searched out from your favourite nursery as your new addition for this year.

It's a smaller version of ''Praying Hands', and to give you an idea of size I have photographed my mature 'Praying Hands' against the newer 'Hands Up'. When mature, the size is expected to be half that of mum.

It's a Tetraploid sport found in tissue culture by Marco Fransen in Holland and a worthy addition due to the upright thin leaves and bright yellow edges.

So it's most unusual and, as I said at the start, something new.
